Procedures

It is important that parents inform the administration team of any care, academic, social/emotional or behaviour needs of their child. Failure to do so may result in undue anxiety and under-resourcing for the student. There are specific programmes and support staff within our school to cater for all students and their differentiation requirements. Please refer to the various categories of enrolment as per your situation and that of your child/ren.

The Principal will determine, in consultation with all parties, the best strategy for the integration of the student. Nominated class teachers and support team members will meet with carers and child safety officer to determine a support plan, catering for academic, social/emotional well-being and behavioural needs.

Students in foster care

It is a requirement of Education Queensland that the Department of Child Safety Officer attend an enrolment interview with the Principal. Foster parents and the student in care need also to attend this interview. The school guidance and support team may also be contacted to contribute to this process.

Jimboomba State School’s Special Education Program (SEP)

Jimboomba State School has a Special Education Program (SEP) that supports students who present with a disability. Some of the disabilities include, Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Intellectual Disability (ID), Speech Language Impairment (SLI), Vision Impairment (VI), Hearing Impairment (HI) and Physical Impairment (PI).
The SEP is staffed by teachers and teacher aides and is led by the HOSES (Head of Special Education Services). Jimboomba State School runs a very inclusive program, where all SEP students are in the classroom, working alongside their peers. Thus, both SEP and mainstream staff work together to ensure that all students who present with a disability are provided with adjustments, so that they can access the curriculum at the same basis as their peers.
At Jimboomba State School, we demonstratively ensure that this cohort of students are absolutely not discriminated against, and that they are advocated for in every aspect. A strong feedback culture has been embedded in the school environment. The lines of communication and liaison with all stakeholders, including and not limited to students, school staff, parents, outside agencies and the wider community are always open. Thus giving all a platform to express their opinion and or seek assistance.
This is just a small snapshot of Jimboomba State School’s SEP. Should you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact the Principal and or the HOSES. We will be more than willing to welcome and accommodate you.
